There are many more Massage Styles than ones listed below, Please study choose a style that you are comfortable with you partner, but we recommend to push boundaries, massage can be lots of fun to experiment new styles each time. Sounds
There are some REALLY wonderful long play (or repeat play) relaxation CD's including sounds like Thunderstorms. This sound at the right volume will help your massage Swap partner reach a more relaxed point much faster. Also do a Google search for free relaxation music. Turn OFF your mobiles, a massage is to be enjoyed to its fullest.
Smells
Set the stage with an aroma that suits the massage, Tiger Balm is great for Thai massages and a more sports injury type massage, where burning Frangipani Oil is sensational for more tropical style Massages.
Lighting
Lower the lights, BUT not all the way, somewhere between candle light and low voltage lighting, sometimes natural light can also make your partner relax even more.
Touch
Try to remain touching your Massage Swap partner most of the time, even if its when you are having a small rest, usually they are face down and relaxed, without the touch, they wonder where you are.
Warnings
You don't need to organise a massage on the first day you meet, massage is about being relaxed, and relaxed means you will need to be comfortable, to be comfortable you need to trust the person, and trust will only come with time.

Styles
- Acupressure

Acupressure (sometimes called shiatsu) is one of the oldest and most widespread healing methods in the world. By using deep finger pressure at certain points, practitioners can reduce tension, increase circulation and offer relief for many complaints. Bowen
Best performed by a more experienced person.
Bowen therapy is a type of alternative therapy created in Australia in the 1950s by a body worker named Tom Bowen. The therapy involves gentle touch using the practitioner's thumbs and fingers and light rolling motions. Bowen therapy is typically done on a treatment table with the client wearing loose clothing.
Proponents of Bowen therapy recommend it for back pain, joint pain, sports injuries and other health conditions, although its effectiveness hasn't been explored in clinical trials. The therapy is considered a form of bodywork but is not massage.
Chair Massage

# Many people associate lomi-lomi with hot stones, but that is a very small part of the practice.

Hot Stone
- Is an addition to many other forms of massage, but usually combined with a Swedish Massage
* During the massage, the therapist warms up the body with traditional Swedish massage, then massages you while holding a heated stone. As the stone cools, the therapist replaces it with another.
* The therapist might also leave heated stones in specific points along your spine, in the palms of your hand, on your belly, or even between your toes to improve the flow of energy in your body.
* If you have inflammation or muscle injury, cold stones are sometimes used.
* Use a large stone/s (not a garden rocks) and heat in hot water for 10 minutes, but its crucial to test on your own skin first. Your Massage Swap partner will normally let you know as well.

Relaxation
- There are no rules here except listen to your Massage Swap partner early, they will indicate if they normally like a Hard, Medium or Soft type massage, and often will ask you to mix it up. Make sure they soak up the your settings. Lots of long flowing strokes, apply pressure where you feel you would enjoy it. Do not tickle and always remain a closes distance to your Massage Swap Partner. Usually a minimum 20 minutes.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a traditional hands-on Japanese healing therapy that has been formulated over the last 100 years from the traditional Japanese amma massage which is a feel good, therapeutic massage. Shiatsu literally means finger pressure and as such describes part of the therapy whereby natural body weight (finger, thumbs, elbows, forearms, feet and knees) is used in applying pressure to special points on the body. This is combined with stretches, joint rotations and joint manipulation to give an all-over treatment, which aims at treating the patient on a holistic level.
Sports Injury

Sports massage is a type of massage that is specifically tailored to sporting injuries or ailments. It is not meant to be a relaxing massage and, indeed, can become quite vigorous at times. Contrary to its name, sports massage is not only utilised by professional sports people or people that exercise heavily. It is of benefit to anyone that exercises, even if it is only mild exercise such as regular walking. Great after a tough workout.
Swedish
# Swedish massage uses firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and create other health benefits.
# Generally during Swedish massage you're nude underneath a towel or sheet. The therapist uncovers only the part of the body he/she is working on, a technique called "draping".
# You can keep your underwear on during Swedish massage, and many newcomers do.
# Feel free to state your preference for pressure during Swedish massage. It can range from light to firm. Swedish massage usually includes some deeper work on areas of specific muscle tension. Thai
- Best performed by a more experienced person.
Thai Massage is an interactive manipulation of the body using passive stretching and gentle pressure with the hands and feet. These movements help to adjust the skeletal structure, increase flexibility, relieve muscular and joint tension, stimulate internal organs and balance the body's energy system. The effect is both relaxing as well as energizing. This video is a good example on how hard Thai massage can be to do.
